Stable Yard Cottage
This is the largest of all three cottages and can sleep up to 6 people. The cottage has been sympathetically refurbished and furnished with a pleasing mix of contemporary and period furniture which gives it warm and homely feel. It is very spacious with all the bedrooms and two bathrooms situated upstairs leaving the kitchen, living/dining room and a utility room (with a toilet) downstairs.
It has charming country views south across Blackadder River to Greenlaw Mill Farm and Catmoss Hill forming one of three sides of an open courtyard, together with a barn and the estate wall of Castletoun House. Unusually for a village property the position offers a certain seclusion without being isolated.
All rooms (except the laundry room) have open southerly country views giving the cottage this sunny and light feel to it. This cottage is children and pet friendly and provides and excellent opportunity for the families get-together.

The kitchen is well equipped with an AGA that does not just bake to perfection but exudes the warmth and cosiness into the atmosphere that inevitably seeps into the living room. For those who find the AGA a bit too tricky to operate there is also a microwave that can double up as an oven too. The Dolce Gusto coffee machine with some complimentary pods is provided as is the cafetiere for the ground coffee.
Just off the kitchen there is a little utility room with a washing machine, dryer, hanging rack, toilet and a an old fashioned laundry sink.
Here, a roaring wood burning stove is in the center of this atmospheric room. One side of the room (closer to the kitchen) has a dining table and on the other end there are three comfortable sofas, ready to relax in or have a wee snooze.
A good selection of board games and toys can be found in one of the cupboards and will definitely occupy the younger as well as the older members of the family for longer periods of time.
All the bedrooms and bathrooms are situated upstairs and yet again are all south facing creating a lovely warm and sunny feel in each room. A couple of bedrooms have comfortable double beds with built in cupboards and the third one is a twin room with matching antique metal beds and a superbly up-cycled cupboard. The rooms are pleasantly furnished; few modern artefacts pleasantly mixing with traditional aspect of the cottage.
Upstairs along the corridor there is a shower room and and a spacious bathroom.
Stable Yard Cottage has its own front private garden and a private car parking space. It has charming country views south across Blackadder River to Greenlaw Mill Farm.
Because of its south facing position, the garden has become, more or less, a sun trap and makes for the most enjoyable al fresco dinners. The BBQ, the garden tables and chairs and parasols are all awaiting. You might get occasional visitors, our free ranging hens.
Another wonderful visit to a beautiful part of the world. Just what we needed in very difficult times!
Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage! We had a brilliant time. The idyllic scenes of St. Abbs nature walk looking back over the harbour and the tranquil beach at cove. My first visit to Scotland has been a complete joy, looking forward coming back soon!
Home form home. Great family stay – made full use of the garden – the red trike was a welcome treat thank you. Our two and a half year old absolutely loved it. So grateful to be welcomed at short notice.
A real home from home. Peaceful, warm and great hospitality. Very happy memories – Thank you so much!
“My second time at this cottage and definitely won’t be my last. A fabulous dog friendly home from home”
